Spamvertised Web Sites Hosted by FishNet
We occasionally receive notice that a Web site hosted on FishNet servers has been advertised via spam. As is clear in our Service Agreement, Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE), or spam, is not permitted through FishNet. Sometimes these spams are contracted out to other services. They were not sent through our servers or Internet connections, thus are not directly subject to FishNet usage terms.
However, we are sometimes notified of such spams. We must respond to each complaint. If we do not, we risk possible harassment or denial of service attacks by anti-spam vigilantes. Because of the time taken for each response, there will be a $15.00 charge for each response for each incident. Examples of what will result in a charge follow.
If 5 people receive the same spam and report it to us, that will be 5 responses, at $15.00 each response. If one person receives 3 copies of the same spam and sends all 3 to us, that is 1 response. If that same person later receives a different spam and reports it to us, that is a different incident and will result in an additional charge.
We do host opt-in e-mail lists for our clients, and we support that service fully. The key is that the recipient must agree to receive the e-mail by subscribing themselves to the list of their own free choice. There must also be a clear unsubscribe method for each list. Addresses may not be added to FishNet hosted e-mail lists without the approval of the subscribers added.
Occasionally we receive complaints from people about e-mail from what is clearly an opt-in list. In such cases, we fully support our clients, while making sure that the subscriber is quickly removed from the list(s) in question.
It is our desire to work with you, and thus with your customers, in a manner that is considerate of the desires of each. Thank you again for your continued business; we appreciate each of you.
